Hi Dea, Don't know if you've tried the Archivianet website. It has immigrants to Canada between the years 1925 and 1935. On the same ship, the Doric, in 1928, as well as Clifford Shaw, aged 16, there's Frank Shaw, aged 23, also English and Andrew Shaw, aged 24, but he's Irish. Just google archivianet. Dea, I checked 'inGeneas' website to see if there was anything for Clifford Shaw. Unfortunately, you have to pay for records, BUT there is a listing for Clifford and a description of the record: 'Immigration List: British Boys brought to Canada by Immigration Asociations - Typical records in this document contain the following information: name of boy; name of ship that brought him in; date of birth; date of arrival in Canada.' You obviously know his ship, etc. so don't have to order the record -- but it sounds like Barbara was right about his leaving England. Here is the site, in case it helps: http://www.ingeneas(.)com/free/index.html remove ( ) first (you'll find his information under 'inGeneas database') In case you don't know, quite a few ships arrived in Quebec and passengers didn't necessarily stay in the province. Good luck with your search. (My ancestors arrived in Canada well before that time so I cannot offer any other suggestions, sorry.) By the way, here is a telephone directory for Canada: http://www.canada411.ca/ |

Just a thought, but could he be a home child perhaps? Barbara |

Thanks Linda, It does seem as if he went alone - certainly the rest of his family that I know of remained in England. Does anyone know of any reason a 16 year old would go there at that time? Dea |

Hi Dea, My great great uncle went to US from England in 1912 aged 17. He travelled on his own. Linda |

Have just found details of one of my relatives who went to Canada from the UK in 1928. Immigration records show that Clifford Shaw arrived in Quebec on the Ship DORIC, White Star Dominion. I have a reference No RG76-IMMIGRATION, series C-1-a Volume: 1928 volume 29, Page: 98, Microfilm reel: T-14750. Does anyone know where I can view the passenger list online, or where I can find any further information. He was just 16 at the time, surely someone must have gone with him? Any help GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Dea |
