Thanks folks. I will keep trying. I must be trying to import the wrong file. I'm not very good with computers so I'll ask hubby when he gets home. |

Helen, Do keep trying to import - it took me 3 attempts but it is much better than re-typing. My problem was my name in this system had to match exactly the name used in my family tree. (the name used on here was the name I am known by not my maiden name). Good luck |

Oh Helen, Try re-uploading your tree from disk again before you resort to retyping it in the old fasioned way. |

Well, I decided to go for it and import my tree from my family tree maker. I had to delete my tree, except for myself, in order to import. After waiting for ages, it then came up with a flipping error that was in gobbledeegook (little boxes and things) Basically, it hasn't worked! It looks like I'll have to type it all in from scratch again - ho hum! |

I have a illegitimate child in my tree that I know who the father is so had added, but the trees on here still make it look like the childs parents are married even thought I have never added a date or place of marrege. I think the blank box would indicate that the childs father has not been added or is unknow but i could be wrong |

I gave up adding names on my tree on this site ages ago, I had problems and also didn't find it very user friendly. I've now thought, by not having my full tree on here, I'm missing out on some potential connections. I've therefore decided to update my tree but I'm already stuck! How do you add an illegitimate child? My problem is, before I knew he was illegitimate, I entered his father (was stated on his marriage cert) but later discovered he named his grandfather, I have deleted him but there's still a box and it looks like his mother married twice when she didn't. I've tried deleting this box but as there are children connected it won't let me. Also, it won't let me just put in 'unknown' Do I have to start from scratch again? Cheers Helen x |
