Ive found on the 1891 saline fife census a 9 year old girl named beatrice kate living with margaret anderson head and son james hugh age 25. beatrice is described as granbairn but as there is no mother im confused. she is still there age 19 on 1901 census with same people. there were only 2 daughters in the anderson family, jemima (1859) and catherine (1861). catherine died in 1890 age 29 and all i know about jemima is she married a james clark from london in 1892. there are no records on scotlandspeople for a beatrice or beatrice kate born in fife between 1881 and 1883. help!! also catherine wasnt on the 1881 census with her family which makes me think she probably is the mother? thanks leanne x

hi I think granbairn is another word for grand daughter? Could be the sons daughter and he wasnt with the mother, or the mother died? Vikki xx

Hi Bairn is definatly another word for child. Lots of people often call their children Bairns even nowadays. Julie

hi, yes im scottish and i too am a grandbairn!! just wondered if there would be any easyish way to find out who her parents were. the head of house, margaret anderson was obviously her grandmother but been stuck for any other details for beatrice. if she wasnt born in fife there are quite a few beatrices to search, aaargh! leanne x

Hi There is the following on Ancestry: Anderson, Beatrice Kate 1881 December Births St George Hanover Square London Surrey Perhaps it is worthwhile getting the certificate of birth for this one, to see if it is any relation as it may have parents names on it? Vikki xx
