If it's different quarters then that's a tough one - how frustrating! I agree with Nell - give them both names as an extra check. Good luck! |

I'd use father AND mother's names as checks myself. nell |

When were they born Margaret? After 1915ish (I'm not sure of the exact year), the mother's maiden name is listed in the records, and this might help you. I don't know if freebmd goes into this detail, I know 1837online.com does, but you have to pay for that one. Is the page number given the same? If so, could the same details have been entered twice by mistake? I think if it was me, I would order from the local records office and not the ONS. I have found in the past that if there is a problem with a certificate (for example, the father's name hasn't matched what I thought it would be), people at the records office have contacted me about it and haven't charged. The ONS won't re-credit you with your £7.00 |

If you know the father's name you could put that as a checking point. However beware! If his name is, for example, Henry and he's down on the cert as Harry they will not send it. If you like a gamble it might be better to send for the one you think is nearest the date - its a 50/50 chance! Anne |
