If it's different quarters then that's a tough one - how frustrating! I agree with Nell - give them both names as an extra check. Good luck!

I'd use father AND mother's names as checks myself. nell

When were they born Margaret? After 1915ish (I'm not sure of the exact year), the mother's maiden name is listed in the records, and this might help you. I don't know if freebmd goes into this detail, I know 1837online.com does, but you have to pay for that one. Is the page number given the same? If so, could the same details have been entered twice by mistake? I think if it was me, I would order from the local records office and not the ONS. I have found in the past that if there is a problem with a certificate (for example, the father's name hasn't matched what I thought it would be), people at the records office have contacted me about it and haven't charged. The ONS won't re-credit you with your £7.00

If you know the father's name you could put that as a checking point. However beware! If his name is, for example, Henry and he's down on the cert as Harry they will not send it. If you like a gamble it might be better to send for the one you think is nearest the date - its a 50/50 chance! Anne
