Does anyone know who would be entitled to a British pension if they are living abroad and where I could find out if someone is getting one?? Thank you! |

In most cases I know of British pensions are paid to people who worked in the uk before going to live abroad, the amount of the payment is based on the number of contributions they made during the course of their empoyment. I dont know the system now but in our case it was the National Insurance scheme. |

Not too sure about that Lindsay but if he saw active service, WW2/Korean War etc. I know that if he was here in Australia he would qualify for the same pension as Austalian War Veterans. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Grace |

Thank you Grace, he was in Korea in the Royal Navy, (jumped??) ship in Sydney and served 6 years in the Australian army, signed up for five years in the reserves, but as far as I can make out wasn't called up! The last place we can pinpoint him for sure was E Command in Sydney on 11/02/1960 when he was discharged from the reular army there. It's a nightmare trying to trace him and I think I am up against a brick wall! No death records of him in Australia anywhere, no death records of him in the UK either. I think a pension is my only hope of finding him but it's just trying to get the information!! I live in hope!! |

Doubt if he would be entitled to a pension, not from the RN,especially if he did a runner, and doubt if he would get a pension, for 6yrs service, unless it was a disability pension, ffor illness or wounds, sorry to cast doubts, but pensions, other than disability, are tied in with lengthy service.regards John |

Lyndsey, Stupid questions - have you entered this chap into your GenesRe tree and have you put a message on the Trying to Find board? The latter worked well for my Australian long lost - his daughter found us! Also, you could post again with the surname, Australia and perhaps Sydney (if that's the last place he was heard of) in the title and maybe one of the Aussie members would have a root around for you. I have a good feeling about your search .... and do let us know how you get along. Good Luck Jane |

John: I don't expect he would get a pension from the navy!!I've e-mailed the pensions office here and asked if they can tell me if he is getting a pension in this country, or abroad. I hope the right person reads it and can give me some information! Fingers crossed! Jane: I've posted on the trying to find board, and any other board I can think of across the web!! There are so many lovely people on this site and I've got loads of help so far. I can't believe how someone can just disappear of the face of the earth!! I too have a good feeling, so maybe he is getting nearer, I hope so anyway, I need a good nights sleep lol!! I will post again with Sydney in the title, maybe someone will come up with something! WHEN I find him (positive thinking here!) I'm sure everyone will hear me screaming!!! However just to make sure everyone knows I'll post it on the success board, hopefully in the very near future!! |
