I have found my gggrandfather on 1871& 1881 census as JESSE, born approx 1822 Harrold Beds.I can find a christening in 1822 but in the name of JUSTINIAN.I cannot find a marriage for him, but on census married to Martha and 1st child born 1855( in the name of JESSE). I cannot find him on 1891 or 1901 census, although Martha is on both as a widow. I can find death in 1890 but this is in name of JUSTINIAN however area and age at death seem correct. A son of his later names one of his children JESSE J and another son names his Edward JUSTINIAN. DO YOU THINK JESSE AND JUSTINIAN ARE ONE AND THE SAME? |

Its my bet he is the same man. Its possibly one of those instances where when filling in official BMD registrations his given name but otherwise he uses the name he is known as. I have an aunt Louisa who appears in all censuses as Kate - her middle name and the one she was always known by. |
