Anyone know what a 'viewer' does?

My great-grandmother was also a 'viewer' - as listed on her wedding certificate. In her case, I'm fairly sure that she 'viewed' components of armaments that were being made in the Birmingham Small Arms factory - a sort of Quality Control, I think. Regards, William
