Unlikely you are going to find a trace - I have been looking for years and spent time going through papers at National Archives, Kew but all to no avail. With the increasing might of Prussia it is likely that most fled through Germany via Rotterdam and then ferry to England, or via France to N West ports and , again, used the ferries - there was little control on immigrants and it was easy for people, as refugees, to loose themselves in the crowd. If you know where your relative was born then you can apply to the archive for that locality or the parish church may have a parish register - the other possibility is that, for Germany, a Familienbucher exists which will give history of the locality and the families within the ecclesiastic area. Bill, if you know where your relative was born please contact me direct. |

> Bill, if you know where your relative was born please > contact me direct. Thanks Joseph. Unfortunately the only clues I have are UK census records, which in both cases says simply the country of origin followed by 'Naturalised British Subject' in the 'Where Born' field. It is really imperative to know the area your relative came from - Prussia was large area and continued to grow. Only hope is that your relly had a rare-ish name - have you checked out the IGI at all ? |
