The addresses I had for ancestry plus seemed to have ceased. Has anyone got an address and password that is active. Georgina |

you missed all the fun at the weekend, oh sorry hope your sister is ok. aguy posted a thread asking for a code, and world war three almost broke out, some guy called gary betts, started reading the riot act, about using codes , saying anyone using them was a thief, really got the juices flowing so he did. there was pages and pages, with people all arguing ,about using codes |

Its all quite simple really. Register with Ancestry and you can set your own username and password. No problem. |

Apparently Ancestry are pretty p***ed off with GaleGroup and their laxness at letting their passwords become public knowledge - so much so that they are cancelling GaleGroup's licences. Therefore, before too long GaleGroup will no longer be hosting Ancestry, and none of the old passwords will work. Whilst Gary was being rather brash and preachy the other day, he does actually make a valid point - the unauthorised use of passwords to access internet sites is illegal, and theoretically anyone doing so could be liable to prosecution - much as in the same way that people have been prosecuted for infringing copyright laws by downloading music files. To maintain a website such as Ancestry, with the huge amount of data and images that it holds, is naturally a costly business. Quite simply, if they weren't making money, then the site wouldn't exist. Of course, whether you subscribe legally or choose to access the site via an unauthorised password is your own personal decision. I for one feel that £70 per year is good value for money, and in fact will be renewing my sub for another year when it becomes due this week. Richard |

I am more than happy to pay my £70 or whatever a year to get all the info I have managed to find on ancestry. I think they give a brilliant service (even with the mistranscription which give us a lot of pain). If we dont pay subs the work will stop and I for one am looking forward to the 1851 and 1841 census info they are currently preparing. |
