Ages are rounded down on the 1841 census for people aged 15 and over.

I have family from Kinglsey / Ipstones in Staffs (in fact was there yesterday) and i have a Margaret GREATORIX on my tree. It may be that the name mutated????? I'm affraid that i can't offer any further info as she only married into the family and i haven't got that far yet, but the variation on the name may be helpful. c x

Found her in 1871.... Carolina Greaterax 1838 Hanbury Servant Kingsley Staffordshire dunno where young Charles is though.... unless he's down as the son of someone else. Perhaps she thought she was born 10 years later than she was, or the one born in 1829 died, and she was named after her?

Have you found Caroline and Charles in 1871? I think she lied about her age on their marriage cert so she would appear younger than C Pickering. Have to say, I don't like this ageing process lol

I have been working through my family tree, got to my GG grandfather, Charles Greatorex b1862, got his birth cert, mother Caroline Greatorex, father unknown. Thought then to do some work on Caroline. Got a marriage cert for her to a Charles Pickering in 1871. This says she is 24 (b1847?, father Thomas Greatorex) and Charles is 29(b1842)and a widower (I cannot find any other marriage for this man!) 1881 Census, Caroline is aged 42 (b1839 Hanley) Charles is aged 38 (b1843) and Charles the son is living with them. 1891 Census, Caroline is now 58 (b1833 Hanbury) Charles is 48. They also have her nephew living with them, Frederick. (Got his birth cert and says mother is Eliza Greatorex, father unknown) 1901 Census, Caroline is now 66(b1835 Hanbury) Charles 57. I dont know if I now have the right marriage cert and also I found a family from Hanbury with the father as Thomas and with daughters Caroline and Eliza, but this means that Caroline was christened in 1829. I wonder why her age changes so much on the census returns too. Does anyone think that this is possibly the right family? I have also found a death for Caroline Pickering in 1911 aged 81 (making birth year 1830). Thank you all for reading this. Michelle
