I am trying to find out where one of my ancestors was from. Fun fun! His name was John BESSANT (can also be spelt Besant, Besent, Bessent, Beszant, Beasant). He married Sarah SHELLEY on 4th May 1775 in Harbridge, Hampshire. He was a 'sojourner' of this parish which basically meant temporary resident. I am going to the Hampshire RO tomorrow, to get copies of certain things and to hope to find him. The marriage stated that he was a widower. He died before 1837 registration so not much help there. Are there any records that MIGHT suggest as to where he was a main resident? The couple stayed in Harbridge for a few years, had a couple of children and then moved, not exactly known where. One of their sons married in Christchurch, settled for a time in Ringwood (Benjamin), no clue as to what happened to the other one or where they went after 1780. Benjamin also moved about close to the border of Hants and Dorset. Is there any way of finding out where John Bessant was from????

Yeah, Joy? Will look around then. Thanks. Even though the Bessants were a popular name especially for Eling. But not traced any of mine back there yet.
