when looking for the parents of one of my ancestors, ive found three couples that it could be, all the men have forenames that are already in the family and come from the right area. so how do i know which one it is? am going grey here and willprobably go bald as well. |

You'll need to find marriages and/or births etc.. and order certificates, from educated guesses hopefully. If you have any definite info you could use that as a checking reference when ordering the cert, that way it only costs £3 if the info does not match. Tell us who & where, perhaps someone would see something you're not Regards Sam |

I did wonder Kate, sorry no, but I would have liked to. Someone else may be able to though. You have the ability to view certs rather than buy them don't you? Sam |

If you look at the birth certificate of one of the children, it will give you the date of the parents marriage and the place. Just go to scotlands people website as the original entries are there. (Sorry, I haven't been there for a long time and have no credits left but for £6 you should be able to look at all these and more) |

Aah, sorry, don't know where you need to look then. You might strike lucky on IGI as they seem to have coverage for Scotland back then. |

Kathleen - have you looked on Scottish Documents, it's really helpful if you can find some wills / inventories for your ancestors on there. Kate. |

Kathleen I am firmly stuck in the 1780s, no less than seven couples with the same names in the same small village....been trying to sort them out for three years now and havent made much headway. Sometimes you just have to give up! Well, for a bit, anyway. Marjorie |
