Thanks Nell, The groom was a carter. I also have his wife's name and 8 of their kids and where they were born... so... fingers crossed :):):) Maria

Maria You can order online here: www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0 if you have any means of checking its the right cert - ie if you know either groom or bride's father's name/occupaton, or the groom's occupation, you can ask the GRO to check the details. That way you pay £4 if its not the right cert, but £7 if it is the right cert and they will send it to you. nell

Hi Linda, My gg grandfathers name was thomas noble. he was bornin bramham in yorkshire but his wife was born in shropshire. His wife was bornin Shropshire and 4 of his children where bornin shropshire, 1 of them being Wellington, some in dawley. I have found an entry for a Tom Noble 1855 Wellington, Shropshire. I can't be certain but it's the closest I've got so far, thats why I was wondering about being able to get a marriage certificate with it being so long ago. Maria :)

The district shown in the 1837 is the Registration District where the event was registered. There is a list of Registration Districts by county - http://www.fhsc(.)org(.)uk/genuki/REG/ Remove the ( ) from the address. and Yes you can order certificates based on the information given Year Quarter Name Reg District Volume Page Number. http://www.gro.gov(.)uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0 OR from the District Reg office shown and the Vol and Page numbers are not then required.

You only need the name of one of the persons to order a marriage certificate.

Where the were married, the civil registration district which can cover quite a large area

When searching for a marriage on 1837, the place they put with the person, is this where they where born or where they here married? I know it's probably where they where married but I need to check as I think I have found my gg grandfathers marriage at long last. Also, when finding someone, does this mean I can can get a marriage certificate, the year is 1855 :) Maria
