A friend lent me a pile of old Family Tree mags and I came across an article (Aug 1998) on ged2excl which converts a Gedcom to Excel format. I was wondering if anyone knows of a newer version of this - free preferably :-) - which would work on XP. I use Family tree maker V9 Sylvia

I think it's just a case of trying it - if it works then it works, if not then ..... ah well ... It's available here http://users.skynet.be/genehist/tinytafe.htm or do you know it doesn't work with XP?

Hmmm too old a programme I suppose. A pity it sounds as if it could have been useful...saving a lot of typing Thanks anyway, Sylvia

I found an Excel macro via Google called GED2EX11.MAC. Not sure whether it's the same program that you are talking about or not, but it seems to work well. I have Excel 2000 and my Gedcom files are created by FTW v11, but the macro should work on newer versions of Excel & later Gedcom versions too. The download site for the macro is: http://www.filelibrary(.)com/Contents/DOS/47/4.html . Download file number 150 on the list. You need to place the macro in a Visual Basic module within Excel - if you're not sure how to do this, message me with your email address and I'll send you a blank Excel file with the macro already included. Richard.
