Hi Amanda. Thank you for checking Hatfield Peveral. One less Hatfield to consider, eh? :~)

Amanda,

Amanda, Report 22 Apr 2005 19:39

Hi Lisa Have done Hatfield Peverel 1841, no sign of any Mumfords there that I could see, images are very dark but most are readable. Hopefully someone will add any Hatfield's from any counties that they have from 1841 for your James Mumford. Will e mail you 1841 image for his parents? Best wishes Amanda

Hi Amanda. I've had computer problems as well. When my dad was ill last year, rather than taking the time to sort through emails, I saved them, hoping to print them when I had more time. My internet provider deleted all of them one day -- about 100 of which were records that I had ordered, information that others had found, etc. Computers are wonderful, until there's a problem, eh? Hope you didn't lose anything vital when your computer crashed. I'll send you my address. Thanks so much, Amanda.

Hi Lisa, Actually 1841 should solve all my problems, instead I have more!! I will e mail you for your addy, I know I had it but my computer has crashed since. There is also a Hatfield Peverel in Essex 1841, will have a look now. From my map book these two places are not next door to each other. Amanda

Hi Amanda. Would it be possible to get the image from you, please? The family you found is whom I believe to be James' family. Last year another kind person found a J. Mumford, age 15, in Warwickshire in 1841, as a 'jr butcher'. My James owned a butcher store in Ontario, Canada in 1870 (and his three sons became butchers) -- perhaps I should just assume he was born in Hatfield Broad Oak. I will check to see if there are any Henry's mentioned in my notes. Thank you very much for looking for me, Amanda. I hope your searches are going well?

Hi Lisa, I remember your search. Not sure if this will help at all. Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex 1841: James 40, looks like he is a butcher? Martha 40 Sarah 12 Louisa 10 William 7 Have saved image for you. There is no sign of James Jnr in Hatfield Broad Oak. There was one more Mumford, think it was Henry, he was 20, not born in County. Best of luck Amanda

I would like to confirm my ancestor's birthplace, but even with wonderful help and suggestions in the past from GR members, he refuses to be found. Coincidences point toward his birthplace, but I really would like to find a record of his birth. Evasive ancestor is: James Mumford, born 26-Oct-1826 in Hatfield, England. Parents were James and Martha Mumford.........I've found a James Mumford, son of James and Martha Mumford, baptized on 16-Jan-1827 in Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex...........(There were quite a few James Mumfords from this era and I would like to confirm that I've found the correct one. There were also several Hatfield's in England)........He was possibly included in the 1841 Warwickshire census, working for a family. .........James settled in Canada prior to 1857. I cannot find a marriage record in England and assume he married in Canada (before records were required). Thank you in advance for any suggestions you might have.
