Carol, I have a birth that was registered twice. Both times by the mother, Both had the same registrar! When I rang the record office to query it, they told me that they were even on consecutive pages with only 1 other registration between them. I have no idea why this baby was registered twice, So you never know! Pat

There are 3 Elizabeth Scotherns all about the same age in the West Midland area on the 1881 census. Perhaps two of them died in the same year. dave

Hi Helen Her name was Elizabeth Scothern born around 1847 give or take a year. I found death on Ancestry, age 39 Qtr Dec, year 1884, District Basford, Vol 7b P.79 and also P.120. All details are exact apart from Page numbers Carole xx

Is this on FreeBMD? If the entries are the same year, quarter, district, except for page number then it is likely just a mistranscription. All records on FreeBMD are transcribed twice, this is to try and cut out errors. If the two transcribers 'see' different information the record can appear twice showing both transcriptions. If you're not sure what I mean, post the name and date and I'll have a look.
