Have ordered many certs for rels in Leicester and used to the prefix for the area being 7A. Have tracked down my ggrandfather's date of death but the prefix is 3A, does anyone know what area that is as I am baffled until I find out where he had gone and you know how long certs sometimes take! Have a distant rel in America and he was on 1837 online and looked it up for me. My ggrandfather lived in Leicester -Albert Victor Ward- and a contact looked up the details at the Leicester City Council office. He was short on time and is looking again Friday for me but he gave me April 2nd 1947 aged 75, late of 100 Northampton Street so was unsure if he was away or moved . I even questioned 3A with my American rel and he came back with the same answer Elaine

Elaine, All I did was Google '3a registration district'. Takes you to site which gives details of them all. Kath. x

Note that the area numbers changed (1947?) so that recent stuff will have different volume numbers.

I don't think it should be 3A so will be checking myself but at the records office when I can get there but sooooo tempted to order as it has taken a while to find him as I had absolutely nothing to go on. Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated Elaine

After Googling a bit, it seems that Leicester may well be 3a these days. I can't find a list though.

Well just rang the Leicester records office and they were great. Just need to put a cover letter in with my request (and £7 of course) and some details and they will look for me Cheers everyone Elaine
