I can find them on census and they say their birthplace is in Scotland, but I can't find them. James Miller c1837 (19 when married Oct 1856) James Miller and Elizabeth Miller Jane Buchanan c1838 (18 when married Oct 1856) Thomas Buchanan and Janet Rennie Annie McColl c1853 (20 when married Dec 1873) Bernard McColl and Ann McBride (sister's marriage certificate in 1861 says Agnes McBryde as mother) Any help would be appreciated. Anne, That is brilliant. How did you manage to find that? I've been searching on there before and never saw that. Is there any way of checking if Thomas and Janet had any other kids? Margaret |

When in the familysearch site and searching the IGI you can search for childern by just quoting the fatehr and mother details then ask to search for births and set range to as much as 20 years. The search can also be limeted by region, I tend to search for British Isle and Scotland but you can go to county level |

When searching scotland especially pre 1855 when statutory registration began (much later than the 1837 in England) try scotsorigins*com. This is the LDS IGI site where you can search by county and I've often used it to search first and then order from scotlandspeople afterwards!!! Check the source of the info though as sometimes its not from the OPR's but what has been submitted by LDS members and can be off the mark. |

Thanks for your help. I'm away for the day now, but will try those when I return. Georgina, Annie's sister Bridget was, according to the 1871 census, born in Ireland. She was married in Scotland in 1861, so I want to get my hands on an 1861 census to see if the family was here by then. I've got a feeling that anything prior to 1861 will be in Ireland. Sorry I can't help you with your Elizabeth. Margaret |
