Just thought I'd nudge this so that people can see that even after 4 years people do turn up when you don't expect them to and remember NEVER GIVE UP Cheryl

I was just thinking - another one who I couldnt find except for his birth, marriage and death - his name was Jonas Horstead. I looked everywhere for that man on all the census but no sign. I then went for the wife's name - Charlotte Horstead. I finally found them in a lodging house (he was recorded right age,as mariner born Stepney, which I knew to be true) and Jonas had been transcribed as Thomas. Obviously someone other than this couple (probably the landlord) had given the details and had misheard his name. So it may be worthwhile when you cant find someone to say their name aloud and see what it could possibly be misheard as.

It makes you mad doesn't it. I have a family who appeared on the 1861, 71 and 81 census and then disappeared, can't find them at all on the 1891 or 1901. I've given up again for a while. M.

Brilliant Cheryl! Let us know how you get on. I'd been thinking for the last 2 years that one of my ancestors must have died as a child. Then I found him quite by accident on the 1891 census (still haven't found him on the 1881). That was a fortnight ago. I'm now in touch with one of his descendants. Like you say - never give up! Hi Just thought I post this for all those people who think like I did that their family were abducted by Aliens. That was what I thought had happened to my Gt Uncle until yesterday Been looking for Gt Uncle Ellis Spencer for 4 years had his DOB,parents names, siblings name should be easy to trace no problem, thats what I thought how wrong can one be lol!!!!! On Census in 1881, 1891 then he disappears. I knew he had got killed in 1917 during WW1. Checked on CWCG site no Ellis Spencer listed in the British Army but there was an Ellis Spencer listed who got killed in 1917 but not English, strange I thought, I read on he was serving in the Australian Brigade of the Trench Mortar Battery. But no other details were given only that he was Austrailian. I posted messages on every site possible hoping that someone out there could help.A lot of people tried but with no luck. So I tried searching the records at the Austraulin Government site for War Records of their soldiers. I thought that if I found the Australian Ellis Spencer at least I'd know one way or the other if the two were the same. Again no luck. ARGH!!!!!!!! On and off for the last four years I've tried everything possible to find him but no luck. In the end I gave up, thinking I would never find out what happened to him YESTERDAY I FOUND HIM. Logged on too the Austrailian Gov site again typed in his name and there he was like a mirage his name appeared along with his next of Kin my Grand Father. Still can't believe I've found him I have e mailed them and I am waiting for them to send me his records. Anyway the Moral of this tale is NEVER GIVE UP you will find them eventually. Cheryl
