Patricia Sammy beat me with the 1871/81 Census I also noticed on those returns that William was a Coalminer.Must admit I was a little confused also re the addition of Cooper,it's not very clear on the image page but could they possibly have dropped the Cooper in later years ? I checked the 1891 Census,both William & Eliza are there but on seperate listings,William as head 56yrs and Eliza as wife 54yrs still of West Dean but I was unable to find them on the image paper,not surprising as it was very untidy. Hope it all comes together for you soon Judy

Could you be confusing that fact that William was married to Eliza and the fact that his mother's name was Elizabeth?

Could someone please help me solvemarried this problem? I cannot find a marriage for my ggrandparents,William Turley born 1836 in Blakeney,Glos and Eliza born c1839.I have a copy of my grandmother's birth certificate and her mother's name was Elizabeth Ann Biddington.The only birth I can find for her is 1849,so I am wondering if William married twice,each time to an Eliza/Elizabeth.There was a 7year gap in the family and I wonder if William had married again and had 2 children.I have done everything I can think of to solve this and I would be grateful for any help or advice.Thanks.
