Margaret, Like Sandra's ancestors, my g grandparents didn't marry until they'd been together for 25 years ( liked to be sure of each other!!!) He'd been married before, and presumably didn't marry my g gran until first wife had died -although I haven't found her death yet. (I have (eventually) found his first marriage) If you're really paranoid, try looking for a first marriage!! maggie |

I've been looking for ages for grt grt grandfather's marriage between 1860/65 without it I can't get any further back on his line as no idea where he lived or his parents before marriage, its not on the Gro lists and I don't know where he married to go local offices . Kim |

I know the feeling, I can't find a birth certificate for my granmother, apparently when she became pensionable age, they couldn't find it then either. She was born in 1878 and came from a big family, so I suppose they could of just forgot to register her. I can't find a birth certificate for my uncle either, he was born in 1910, I can't see that he was forgotten then. You wonder if they put the wrong spelling, name or somthing, cause it's got to be there somewhere - keep searching. Jackie |

Margaret I know. I am very miffed that I can't find my gt grandmother's second marriage (although her first husband is the one I am descended from, so that's something). I have her birth cert, 1st marriage cert, births & deaths of various children, census entries for 1851, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and her death cert as well as the death cert of her 2nd husband. But no 2nd marriage. What's more galling is that I think it must have happened in a short time, between 1st husband's death in May 1979 and the 1881 census where she is with 2nd husband. Have searched parish registers for Islington (where she was widowed) and Greenwich (where she appears on the census). Nothing and no trace under maiden name or 1st marriage name or 2nd husband's name either. Maddening! nell |

...doesn't mean they're not out to get you! Equally, just because I can't find a Marriage Certificate/Record, doesn't mean they weren't married, does it? I know 'almost everything' about my Gt.Grandparents but I can't find their marriage. It's like an itch that I can't scratch. M Steer |
