Ancestry plus access in libraries may change

Breaking News Auckland City Libraries provides access to AncestryPlus as one of our subscription databases. Recently Ancestry.com, the provider of AncestryPlus, switched exclusive global rights for public libraries from Gale to ProQuest. The key change for Auckland City Libraries members is that from 1 May the licence agreement does not allow us to provide access to AncestryPlus from outside of the library. This means that customers wishing to use Ancestry.com must visit one of Auckland City Libraries to access the database.

Thanks Peter, Will it happen here then do you think? I must admit when I first started I used to access Ancestry Plus from passwords I saw on here but then took out a subscription when I got fed up with them keep changing and not being able to access records. Linda

Ancestry said some time ago that access should not be available outside the library premises, implying that Gale were not sticking to their licence agreement. MB

It's already that way in Vancouver. You have to visit the library to use Ancestry - no access from outside. I'm spending a lot of lunch hours there!
