Jan, I too may be looking in this particular 'plot' - hope you don't mind me riding on your shirt-tails for Joy's response! When I was down in Plymouth in March, I tried to find an ancestor's grave in Plympton St Mary's churchyard - without success. I do have a phone number for Efford somewhere - it's sunk under a pile of papers because work took over upon my return. I'll dig it out in the morning and share it with you. I'm sure they wouldn't mind doing a look up - especially if you know that date ... I did something similar with another distant cemetary, they even gave me the exact plot numbers. Regs Jane

I heard somewhere that most cemeterys charge if it is for family history, but not if it is for any other reason. Whether that is true or not I dont know.

Certainly neither Bournemouth nor Ann's Hill Cemetery in Portsmouth charged me. They were both helpful, and one even took a photo! Joy

Joy, You obviously have much greater charm than I do - honestly, a photo indeed! And you beat me to finding the phone number whilst I was still searching for that scrap of paper! Charm AND efficiency - some things for me to aspire to then! Happy hunting all & regs Jane

You are welcome, Joseph. My better half comes from Plymouth. Jane - I googled for the 'phone number! I was gobsmacked at the photo - when I wrote again about another grave, I was sent a plan, no photo that time. When I went to Boscombe, Bournemouth, cemetery, someone kindly met me and showed me where the grave was. Having said all that, there were no gravestones ... but in Boscombe, I stood on the grass next to the place and paid my respects. :-) Joy

I went to Efford cemetary last year and the staff looked up a plot for me without charge. although I did have a date of death and a photo of said grave. Unfortunately, the grave had long gone, they said something about not having the freehold, and that the monument would have been removed although the coffin should still be there! (no eviction then) Ronnie
