Sue - why didn't I think of that?!!! Doh!! Thanks, I'll have a look. Cherie Have contacted one member who has a John Simms born in Surrey but slightly too late. Have let her know anyway in case she finds older John Simms' in her family in due course. Thanks Sue, Cherie

Cherie, Did you do a name search on this site for John Simms, Leatherhead (or maybe Surrey)? You could alert potential descendants to this thread! Sue

Thanks Sue & Maureen. Bit of a sad subject to have written a song about really isn't it? I hope a relative of John Simms sees this. Cherie

Hi Cherie, I didn't see that one when I looked, but tried Googling, and came up with this site, which gives more info that you may not have seen. http://www(.)informatik(.)uni-hamburg(.)de/~zierke/martin(.)carthy/songs/poormurderedwoman(.)html Sue (in NZ)

I have just visited a website posted on here this morning by Sue Bridges which details a collection of old songs. One of the songs, 'The Poor Murdered Woman' is about the finding of a murdered woman in 1834 and is supposed to have been a true story. Mentioned in the song is one John Simms or Sinn who was an innkeeper. Would love him to be mine and to have a song mentioning one of my relatives but sadly he's not mine. Is he yours? Cherie
