Hi Heather & Susan, Thanks for your help there, I wonder if that John & Betty are my Johns parents. It sounds very promising. He had a son John Rudd who was my grandfather who would have been John & Betty's grandson. Although I'll have to go back and check your message again as my grandfather John wasn't born until 1875 and I think it shows the grandson as being on the 1871 census. You've both been so helpful and so has everyone else. MANY THANKS. Z. PS I've got the marriage certificate (original) of the Grandson - my grandfather He married on the 8 April 1903 age 28. married Clara Tucker. His father was John Rudd farmer. So he wouldn't have been born until 1875. Unless of course the John & Betty had another Grandson called John which could easily have been the case.

Sorry Zillah. I'm starting to assume everyone knows what it is lol The IGI is the International Genealogical Index and is found on the Mormon website at this address... http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true It has births and marriages from Parish registers. Be warey if you see anything aded by a member, as it could be false. If it is extraced locally, it is more likely to be accurate, but still needs checking with the originals.

This could be the reference for John Rudd's birth. I think Stoke Demerel is in Devon. Dec. qtr. 1838. Stoke Demerel, vol. 9, page 424 This would give you both parents names. Kath. x

This is the reference for their marriage certificate:- Name: RUDD, John Record Type: Marriages Quarter: March Year: 1868 District: Barnstaple County: Devon Volume: 5b Page: 831 There is a Mary Ann Reed on the same page. If you buy the marriage certificate it should give you both of their father's names and occupations, which will be a start. Kath. x

This should help with the year and place of marriage, fathers names should be on the marriage certificate if one was named. Do you have them on any of the censuses? This would help narrow down the search area. The IGI covers a lot of births from that time, so he could be on there.

Hi You could either request a lookup on the 1841 or 1851 Devon census and hope that he lives with his parents or you will have to send for his birth certificate. Sam

Can anyone help me please. I have all the details of my great grandfather JOHN RUDD b. 1838, CHARLES, DEVON. I know who he was married to, and his children. (married Mary Ann Reed b. 1840) I don't know marriage date nor place. I know they had a farm in Marwood,Devon, after they were married and that's where all their children were born. I am trying to find the name and any details of his father & mother. Can anyone give me any tips please. Your replies will be gratefully received
