Looking for death of Hannah TILLEY, between 1881-1892 ( nee Wyatt ) born Portsmouth 1859, married George Tilley in Malta 1879, had daughter Alice 1881 Malta, got 2nd marriage cert for george 1892 as widower in Portsmouth. Looked in 1837, Free BMD, ancestry, and Malta cert on line, can any one in Malta help or suggestions welcome please

June You seem to have exhausted all the likely sources. So I would suggest a) either she died somewhere else, not Malta or Portsmouth b) her name has been misrecorded c) maybe her widower was telling porkies and she was still alive! Have you checked for a death later than 1892? nell

Hi. Any chance of you being able to look at the rcords of deaths, over here we can go to the local records office and look them up, but not sure how it works in Malta, would be over the moon if I can find any details, been trying for 10+ years to end this mystry. Thanks.

Hi June What was George Tilley's occupation? If he was in the navy, they may have moved around a bit and she could have died either at sea, or at any of the naval towns. Alternatively, they might have parted and she either remarried and/or reverted to her maiden name. (I only suggest this as I have a relation who marries twice under her maiden name and I have no idea what happened to her first husband!)

thanks brenda, have thought she might have died at sea, but havn't got a clue where to look for that ! george is classed as civil servant on his 2nd marr cert, but was a tug boat operater when in malta. will try under maiden name a bit further
