Thanks for your help everyone. I thought it may be to do with engines as he was an engine driver on marriage cert. My mum had heard from a rellie that he went round building roads wherever he could get work,and ferried his children around in some sort of steam roller/cart contraption!! Carole xx

After looking at some more of the images on the next few pages, I think it might be Dock Labourer, although I would never have thought so just looking at the one image. Kath. x

Hi, it is difficult to make out. Could it be Gen, as in General Carrier or Carter. Christine

If you look towards the bottom of the previous census page, you will see something that has very similar formation of the letters - it is (just) discernable as 'dock laborer'. The 'GL' witten against your chap's occupation by the Census analyser, suggests to me that his job would be some sort of general labourer.

Morning All Would a kind person look at a census for me,I cant decipher the occupation. Its RG 13/355,Samuel Sargent in London,born Notts. On his marriage cert hes an engine driver if its any help. Thankyou Carole
