Jackie, forgive me, it is early. I looked for born in, not living in! She is living with her family in Museum Hill, Haslemere. Do you want all the family details? |

Looks like someone has sent you the reference number so that you could order a certificate for Helen Maria Smith from the GRO. Peterbro' is the district where the event was registered, 3b (not 36) is the volume number and 223 the page number. I guess they must also have told you whether this was a marriage or a birth, and the year and quarter that the event was registered. |

I just checked on the Free BMD site and the reference 3b 223 relates to a birth of Helen Maria Smith registered in Peterboro district in the June qtr of 1875. Hope this helps. Carolyn |

Thanks Judith, That makes sense now (i'm new to all this) as for births and marriages, i have not had any info on that at all . What i typed in the message was what i received. Marriage and death is what i am after now. Jackie |

Glad to help, but I've just looked at your other thread and yes you were told the year and quarter and that it was a birth entry! Marriage and death are going to be a whole lot harder for people to find for you as there is no way of knowing when or where they might have happened. Also the free indexes don't cover much after 1910 so people would have to spend money to look up the indexes online. Your best bet would be to find a library with the GRO indexes on microfiche, or to visit the Family History centre in Myddleton Street London and trawl through the index books themselves. It could be a long job though and I don't know how you would know if you had got the right Helen Smith! |
