Oh dear, I wish I could remember the site, but if you ask Peter Walker he may - there was a site which told you where regiments were in certain years. I dont know how far the period covered - I checked out hubbys great grandad in the Guards 1891. Sorry so vague and waffly, but send Peter a message - Im sure he would help. |

Very little information on the Court minutes, just name of complainant - grandma and defendant George Cashmore - and how much awarded - apparently court registers giving additional information did not start until 1927. Jackie |

Does his maintenance order give his service number? If so does it match the number on the medal card? |

My father was born in 1920, and never knew who his father was, other than the fact he was a soldier, probably a Guard, and dad as a boy used to go to Windsor barracks to collect his maintenence money. Following on from some advice regarding Bastardy orders, I have just received from the Berkshire Records office the Windsor Petty Sessions court doc. Application for affiliation order naming dad's father as George Henry Cashmore - grandma was awarded 7/6 a week till dad became 14 years. I know George was a soldier, and assume he must have been in WW1 - so looked up medal cards in the Archives, and come up with a likely contender who was in the Coldstream guards. Now I need to find out if he is the right George Cashmore - if his maintenance payments where paid through the army, would that show up on his army records? Would they tell me this? He obviosly was a serving soldier during the 1920's, so who would I contact for records? Would there be a way of finding out if he was in Windsor barracks at the appropirate time? Any help would be greatfully received, I've come so far, I now have a name for my grandfather, it's a shame dad never lived to know. Thanks, Jackie |
