HI. does anyone know where I can find these censuses for free, On freecen or some site connected to it I can find a list of households and they give a film number from LDS, which if I type it in it just shows where the info was from. Also I tried looking at censuses on LDS but they only have 1881. Any help greatly appreciated. AL

Hi These censuses aren't generally availablke online, free or otherwise. Depending on what area you are interested in, you could try googling as some places have extracts or part of the census on line but I don't think there is very much. 1837online has some 1861, not much coverage yet outside of London and it is a pay per view site. You don't say whether you are able to travel to archives but you can access all of these censuses for free for the whole of England and Wales at the Family Records Centre in Myddelton Street, London. Also they will be available free at County records offices and some large libraries, but only for the local area: so the Essex census at the Essex records office and so on. If you must search online www.1837online.*com has the 1861 for London, Surrey, Middlesex, Kent and Essex so far I think - free index, pay to view trascripts or images. The federation of family history societies has 1841 and 1851 census transcripts for Cambridgeshire on its site www.familyhistoryonline.org (possibly for other counties as well ?) they are again pay to view but the money goes to the FHS to fund more transcribing work.

Thanks All, I need a few counties mainly warwickshire, I'll try and plan a day at the records office in London as I probably dont live too far from it, can probably get to it on the underground. I'll persuade my boyfriend to come with me, so it doesnt take so long to look.
