I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT MY GRANDFATHER AND HIS 2 BROTHERS WERE PUT INOT A CHILDRENS HOME IN CHELMSFORD, ESSEX AROUND 1941 WHEN THEIR MOTHER DIED. I AM LOOKING FOR ANY ORPHANAGES THAT WERE AROUND THEN BUT IM NOT HAVING MUCH LUCK. I AM DOING A GOOGLE SEARCH AND SO FAR HAVE ONLY COME UP WITH ONE THAT OPENED IN 1940 AND HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED DOWN AND REFURBISHED INTO SOMETHING ELSE. CAN ANYONE SUGGEST WHERE I MIGHT SEARCH? THANKS

Jenny

Hi Claire, Have you tried looking on the records board? There was a thread on there where someone had a list of children's homes. Good luck Jenny
