Right - it is showing Google and the one entry is P R for Ceswotsit and if you click on the one batch number it shows hundreds of events for St Michaels of Plea, Norwich which seems a bit daft cos if you look under Norwich you see the same batch again. Well, if its Roman shows that apart from the wheel and pizzas they werent always so clever ! |

You have baffled me Nell! All I can say about this is that the film is VERY old. It has been on the IGI for donkeys years and it is based on a transcript, not original registers. Having seen entries attributed to entirely the wrong village on the IGI for Norfolk, the only way to get to the bottom of this would be to order the film or, equally tedious, go to the SoG library, as I think they have a handwritten transcript that is the source for this. Knowing how ropey the LDS grasp of geography is, I'd be quite prepared to believe it was Colchester, Cirencester or Chicago. |

Just looked in before going to bed & get intrigued by this one. Squinting at the map index & dredging up memories of Norfolk accents I just wondered if the first word could be Caister!!!! Can't figure out the second though. Vivienne |

My other thought was that X-cheskor was some form of X-chester and, as we all know, place names ending -chester are all on Roman roads. Unfortunately, perhaps because of their open sandals and the soggy nature of much of Norfolk, the Romans don't seem to have made too many roads there. Cesricheskor Golderch StMichaelat Norwich I can (sort of) see a similarity. |

Mary I hit on the original idea of clicking on the batch number to see where it was - I got a message saying that it was a long batch of lots of different places, but in reality it was a vast list of events at Saint Michael at Plea, Norwich. Perhaps if you say it with a Norfolk accent it sounds like Cesricheskor Golderch but I'm not convinced. As my Norfolk granddad would have said, 'top my left eyebrow! Blast! That's a rum'um!' nell |

Hi Nell, Are you sure it is not Cirencester, Gloustershire? If it is, how did it get in Norfolk Mary |

Geoff I think you are getting a bit obsessed! I thought you told me Ramsbottom was in the north? Or does Norfolk count as 'north'? nell |

Just found this place on the IGI for Norfolk. Surely a mistranscription, but of where? |
