Hi The majority of my family on my dads paternal side were born in Batcombe, Midsomer Norton or Shepton Mallet. Where would I need to go in Somerset to check the records? Thanks in advance. Debby

My relatives come from Midsummer Norton (Blacker's) I just found a wonderful resource on Ancestry world family tree. Someone has transcribed and indexed all the census's and parish records. My grandmother was on there and someone had worked out her family tree back to about 1790. It was called Somerset Coalfield connections. Well worth the subscription for the amount of imformation it gave. You can also get to it through Rootsweb for free just google Somerset Coalfield connections.

Just been on a Somerset rellie trip and spent time in the Taunton Records Office - great place. If you go you do need to book in - google it for the e mail address - it's in Odbridge Road Taunton. Have you also checked to see if you have a local LDS library near you? You can get the parish records, Poor Law records etc etc via them for £3.80 each. You can find them on Family Search. I have the 1841 census if you need anything. jan
