What kind of thing have you had written on your sick note by your GP. I have been ill since early December with the runs chronic stomach cramps fatigue, feeling faint and so on and so forth. I have had colonoscopy, gastroscopy, sehcat scan coming up on Friday and follow up a week on Friday and a barium meal scan on the 14th of this month. I work in a school and have been off work, I never have off work and what does the GP put on my note. PAINS IN STOMACH.Elaine

when I was working we'd often get sick notes coming in with "coryza" written on them - apparently it's a posh name for a simple cold!!

A slightly different tack...

I was a PE teacher in a secondary school for a couple of terms in 1994 and still have some of the 'please excuse ***** from PE' notes

Many written of tiny scraps of paper with the most pathetic of excuses, one actually written on a piece of kitchen roll! All these girls honestly thought they were getting out of doing PE... they only skivved off the once, litter picking was not a preference.

I am quite worried as I am usually so fit. At our school our long serving secretary three years ago was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. Two years ago this month she died of cancer of the overies and stomach. Couldn't it have a least said undergoing tests or some explanation of why I have been off work so long.It makes me feel as though I am just taking time off for no good reason.Elaine

Tina, how many notes did you have with unusual spellings of diarrhoea. You would have at least thought that the parent would have had the intelligence to have a look in the dictionary and spell it correctlly. Elaine.

I know someone who put on self certification note "arm broken by elephant". The circus were in town, and this woman was on the local common with her dog. A circus baby elephant got loose and ran towards her, she put out her arm to stop it ( as you do, haha) and the elephant broke her arm!!

Hey that's a good one Carole, I bet whoever read it was wanting to know the story behind such a statement. Elaine.

Carole. Will have to remember that if I ever have another self cert. Had my first at the begining of December after working since 1969 at the same school. I am going to have a day off sometime just to use it. Elaine.
