Whenever they could manage the stairs. I never had a stair-gate.

Unusally, they came to see me first, anyway.

We lived in a bungalow when mine were little - so they just wandered about. The place was fairly childproof - child locks on all cupboard doors etc, so I saw no harm.
My grand daughter (5 now) lives in a flat, so she does the same thing at home. I live in a house now, and, unlike me at weekends she's usually awake at 6.
I will go downstairs with her, get her breakfast, paper, crayons etc, turn CBBC on and go back upstairs with a cuppa. She's not allowed to do that at home, (eat breakfast while watching TV) so she really enjoys it!!
Oh and all of my cupboards here have child locks on them.

Well, I don't have any of my own. But my brother's two have been coming down on their own since they were 6 and 4. Massive bone of contention in our family, bro + sis in law say it's alright as all they do is put the tv on, and it's so early in the morning that they don't want waking up. Nephew is a strange one. Wakes up about 5.30am (except xmas day when he had to be woke up at 7.30 lol)

Mine used the stairs on there own when they had the confidence to do it.
They were about 8 when I allowed them to get up before us and go and watch tv.
Saying that we are usually early risers so were never far behind them.
James is 10 now and will make a cuppa and some toast if he wants it.
I am very lucky both the children have always been very sensible and never tried to touch things they now I would not allow.

When they could make tea and bring it up to me without spilling any....
Not really, don't phone social services.
About 8 or so. But OH is an early riser so not usually a problem.

Hiya Stray,

None of mine have ever been early risers. Youngest 2 , almost 9 and coming up 6 , wake about 9.30 at weekends, often later. I am sooooo lucky, they are like their mum, need loads of sleep!!!

But we do allow them down to watch tv if we have a rare weekend to have a cuddle lol

when eldest was little we lived in a flat and she was taught how to work video at an early age and she used to get up go to living room and put on a video and watch it for hours.

Laddo never mastered the art of the video and by then lived in a house so had stairgate at top of stairs so he couldnt get down

Tiddler she doesnt come down unless one of us is up although hubby is always up early whereas me I like my bed too much and could stay in it all day.
