My membership renewal was due on 10.02.08 - I logged on on 08.02.08 and tried to renew. .... I didn't know that things had changed. Last year I paid by Switch - this year I couldn't do that so I asked for help and was told that I could pay by cheque ....I don't have a credit card. I sent a cheque for 9.95 immediately. I am now a member again but only for 6 months....I have received a lot of help from people on this site - I am now a member until 10.08.08 but I won't renew....why wasn't I told that things had changed....It is now 16.02.08 - they have renewed my membership 6 days late and I am a lapsed member......!!!!!! Come on GR give a little

This seems very unfair, lots of us are going to have the same problem. I thought they gave you at least a couple of weeks to renew

I would write to them and ask for an explanation as you must have been a member for nearly as long as me.

Doesn't seem so.............have been a member for at least 4 years but now my membership expires on 10.08.08 whereas it was always 10.02....I am an 'older' person - we don't always have credit cards - have been with the same bank for over 40 years and it seems that their debit card isn't acceptable.

So to continue on this site I have to either apply for a credit card or change my bank.....

I know it's a bit late now, but you can use PayPal - and they accept all major cards......

I agree though, it's hardly fair.

Here we go again hey with GR treating their members unfairly. No wonder they gagged me when I tried to get them to address this issue because they're still at it.

If I were you, I would absolutely hound them pointing out that the delay was their fault and as a result you have ended up with half the deal. Don't let them get away with it!

I hope you get somewhere,

I renewed tonight.

Had to use OH credit card as for some reason my UK one was declined.

I am renewed for one year from today, but my membership lapsed on the 14th.

Christine,

Question it. If your money is good enuf it should be good enuf cheque, card or otherwise. If you renewed within the 28 day 'lapse' period they give, it doesnt make sense.

As I understand it, if you renew within 28 days of your old membership lapsing you get the same membership type you had before. ie if you had yearly you will get yearly.

However, I have noticed many UK companies penalising people who pay by personal cheque. Last time I was over I had to shop entirely by switch or visa, none of the high street shops in my old town would accept my cheque book. I am not an older person (£^) and find cheques so much more checkable (excuse the pun). You easily record what you have spent and where. A switch slip is so easily mislaid or even if you ar in a hurry, you can 'sign' for the wrong amount.

My mum hate having to remember 'pin numbers' and isalways concious of the person behind her. Thankfully over here personall cheques are the norm......................for now!
OOOps. Sorry folks. Best get off my soap box.

love T.x

Have they changed it to membership for a year Christine?

Good news Christine, pays to tell them they are in the wrong. As far as I know I paid by Switch (through World Pay?) but I don't ever remember being told they were no longer accepting switch. Not a big problem as I have a paypal account. Nothing like keeping the customers informed.

Hi Christine and all,

A slightly different slant to add to this discussion... I have a Maestro card ( which incidentally is the same as Switch)who's expiry date had been updated....GR would need to be informed so tried to change card details by email prior to my renewal on the 13th of this month.... they said they had no facility for me to do so, and what until the actual expiry date arrived......

The 13th arrived as did an email from GR requesting my renewal.... for me to click on 'yes 'and it would be actioned.....
AND ACTIONED IT WAS.......out of my bank account that very day....£9.75 for 12 months.....BUT....

Please tell me how they could have possibly actioned such transaction when card details were out of date....

Reckon GR must be into black magic now.. would not suprise me!!!!!!!!!!!.
