It depends how you visit, if you stay in resort it will be a different experience than if you take a Nile cruise.
Prices vary but haggling and bartering is a way of life.
The pyramids at Gizeh (just outside Cairo) are well worth a visit, although be warned they are very commercialised - also be wary of taking a camal ride (you will find the camal owner will want paying extra to let you get off!). The Eygption Museum in Cairo I felt was a bit of a letdown although the Tutankhamon exhibits were naturally fasicnating.
If you take a camcorder into the country declare it to immigration and you will get a seperate stamp in your passport. If you dont declare it you may have it confiscated on exit from Egypt.

Thanks Colin.....

Many questions coming your way pmsl! -

Should we sign up for a tour now from Australia, or, book them up (are they easy enough to do) when over there?

Don't want to waste time mucking about really...but if easy enough to do over there, will do....

What about food costs, and hotel prices any ideas on those?

Cheers me dear!

oooh will have to check our docs and see what sort of prices we paid for things can't remember off the top of my head. We paid for our tours back here, they were considerably cheaper to book in Eygpt but of course you cant be sure there will be spaces on the ones you are really interested in...Are you going on a Nile cruise as that is one of the best ways to see the country and you dont need to worry about accomodation, plus you will see a lot more of the country's history and culture....I will pm you later when we have sorted the details out of our trip and when OH gets up (lazy what not) I will get her to have a look at the photos of the various places we visited and give you some idea of whats good to see

Last year Sal I wanted to take my two teenage boys for a week in Egypt and a week in Cyprus. I was really excited and couldn't wait to ask them. It was met with the response "do we have to?"
