Cold calling

Anyone else having cold call selling at the door from Talk Talk?
Just had a male in a suit at the door. Asked if I was with BT and then went onto ask if I was spoken to by the Talk Talk team last week when they came round the street. When I said I wasn't interested he asked 'interested in what' I said Talk Talk and he was then offhand I'm afraid and shut the door. It was his manner than annoyed me.

I put up a thread about cold calling about three weeks ago - had a real dust-up with a windows firm - they invade my road about every two months and I have a clearly typed notice on my door saying I do not require new windows, which should be obvious to anyone with one eye - I then underline that this firm in particular is to take notice of this sign. They called again so I went to town on the company, ended up with an apology and then had a large bouquet of flowers delivered from them!!! I have no doubt whatever though that they will call again. It is possible to get your area categorised as a "No cold calling area" - this has been done in a number of places - think you have to do it through a local councillor

havent had talk talk around but the other week i had npower come around.

The south african gentleman, i will call him that loosely was polite to begin with but as he had rung the door bell very loudly and continuosly until i got to the door he woke two sleeping babies i childmind for. Obviously i was slightly irate by the time i answered the door but he wasnt taking no for an answer.

I told him that for one i didnt have time to talk as i would need to sort out the two babies he had just woken up, another thing is that i wasnt interested in changing supplier at that time and if i did it would be a decision i made for myself in my own time.

He got a bit miffed by this and even after i shut the door he carried on talking through the letter box. I shouted through the door that i would be reporting him to his company and if he didnt leave from my house i would call the police and that seemed to do the trick.

He was very rude and i didnt like his manner when i said i wasnt interested .

I know people need to have a job but manners cost nothing

Ann Thank you. I'm not at home during the day very often so don't get to answer the door to many of these. I know they have a job to do but he was so rude. I wish I'd asked for ID and then I could contact them and complain direct. Will contact my local councillor though and try and get the area classified as you recommend.

May blossom. I heard about these calls too on another thread last week. Thankfully we have TPS which stops these.
LyndyLou.If my OH is on Night shift he puts a note on the door saying not to disturb and it seems to work.

We have cold calling, from a window firm, and I point out that windows, guttering, conservatory all been done by them.
Yesterday, my husband answered the phone to a firm of Solicitors - Do you want to make a will.

i do put a note on the door which most people do look and take notice but he decided to ignore it.

I think its more the manner they have when they call that makes me mad .

Hopefully next time they come hubby will be at home and he can deal with them

On Wednesday last week, a few people were walking round knocking on doors from a window company.

Now as many know, we had the whole lot done last year.

Young woman was a nasty peice of work.

told her I already had it all done, so she went on about having a porch fitted. I said no thanks, Ive spent out enough last year anyhow

convo went on like this

...well if you have money worries we...

Let me make this clear luv, we aint got money worries...I dont want a porch.

Well see this seal on the door, in a few years it will rot bla bla

...In a few years I will get it replaced free of charge...its under warrenty for 10 years...

She then carried on pushing and pushing.

so I said

You're intimidating me and its bordering on harassment.

she denies it..then carries on selling...

several times I say I'm not interested..

In the end I have to ask her to go away I'm not interested .....in a menacing voice holding eye contact.

saw my elderly neighbour today who said she also had a problem with the woman, with luck her son was there & came out when she wouldnt go away.

I wish I had taken her company name now, because I would have posted an open letter to our local rag to shame them.

who else have they bullied into buying products ?

I had Npower around a few months ago. Small woman and large 'suited' man.
They said they owed me money - which they do, as when I was with them for both gas & elelctricity, they managed to misspell my name on one of the bills and they wouldn't give me the £50 for having both utilities supplied by them- even though both bills were paid from the same account!!
I invited them in, and they started insisting I go back with them - I told them I wanted the £50 they owed me, and I didn't invite them round as I didn't want to be harrassed by cold callers. Then she accused me of changing my supplier to a cold caller - I pointed out that was my right and they had better leave. Still she tried to insist. Said I was a hypocrite!! I said it was my perogative and if they left me details I would get back to them - as my new 'cold calling' supplier had done. Strangely she wouldn't. I asked them to leave yet again, and if not, would like the number of their manager.
They left. I wasn't alone while this was going on - my daughter and her boyfriend were in the house too!!
Guess who's NEVER using Npower or any of their subsidiaries again!!!

Talk Talk and BT tried a similar ploy last week. Just closed the door in their faces. Shame as it wasn't their fault, but once bitten .......................

well putting your phone nos on the telephone preference list should sort out the UK based calls. wont stop those that originate outside the UK tho .Also if your tel provider has the facility you can block calls to your home phone to callers who withhold their phone nos. We are on Telewest, now Virgin, and we have both these options in place.costs £1 each per month.
Anyone breaching these from the UK will have collywobbles!! if you tell em you are on telephone preference cos they could get a hefty fine,
We don't get any selling calls now. Of course you ain't covered if you have given your nos to a firm in the past

I am afraid we in our house do not answer the door to anybody not expected. Cold callers are left standing on the doorstep.

We will peep behind the nets just to make sure its not anybody we know lol !!
