Does anyone know of anyone who has had this? A relative of mine has just been diagnosed. She has been talking in a whisper since xmas. Does anyone know if treatment was successful? I'd love to hear from anyone with their own experiences. It's a new thing to me. I've heard of friends with cancer elsewhere but not throat.

My uncle had it and survived for years and my MIL had it and sadly died just 4 months after diagnosis at 61..

But .............that was a while ago now and progress is being made all the time and every case is individual.

All the best to your relative

Lindsey, Dutch and linda, many thanks for your reassurring replies. It is my OH stepmother. At least I can give her some positive things to think about from what you've said. i just hope for her sake it is not too late for treatment. She goes to Christies Manchester next Thursday to find out what they can do for her. to be honest I didn't know what to say to her yesterday. All I could say was that me and OH were thinking of her. What can you say? this is new territory for me. xx

My cousin kept going to the doctors and kept being told he should take pain killers...it turned out he had throat cancer.
He had an operation and chemo and went on for 9 years. Sadly though, he then went on to have cancer at the back of the lung which was inoperable because of the location.

It also didnt affect his voice and he didnt ever smoke either.

Stay positive!...there are so many who get through it

Janet,
She is going to the right place.
I had a cancerous lump in my throat,and had a huge operation in Christies.....wait for it....in 1951 !!
In those days it was very dodgy, and my mum wasn't given much hope, and I had radium needles and was in the theatre for 10 hours.I was told I never had to work hard, but believe me,I have had a very hard working life, and gone through lots of traumas, and I'm still here at nearly 73.
My consultant used to come to Wales from Christies to see me,and included me in a book he wrote about his successes.
I have been attending there until quite recently,as I had to have teeth out there, because the radium had softened the jaw bone.I would never be afraid of Christies. They are marvellous, and I owe my life to them.

Hi there:-)
My Uncle had throat cancer this was in 1965, he had rather advanced cancer and had to have the voice box removed, he lived on until 1985,and it wasn't cancer that he died from it was a heart attack.

Stay Positive the medical profession has advanced so much since then.
