Hi Kemp
the surgery is at fault not you. you were told that they would contact you, and they didn't. The usual procedure of complaint is write to either the principal dentist or the practice manager. If you are not satisfied with their reply, then contact the local PCT (assuming treatment was under NHS).
All dental treatment that was started last year should have been completed by 31 March 2008, so the dentist is probably annoyed because he has missed out on some precious UDA's.

Hi Kemp .. how old is your son ? Mine went through 3 filling with a NHS dentist when he was 4 .. Our current dentist said this was a total waste of time as they where his first teeth and he lost them a year later . Also got a lecture about fizzy drinks, (my kids didn,t get an), at the same time from her .. till I explained he had ITP a year before and was treated with steroids which affects teeth . Its about money not patient care .
Make a complaint ...

Kim .....hes 15
But kim you must remember the reason for filling first teeth is coz if they come out before their time the second bud doesnt grow properly and can come into the mouth anywhere ...I do know that coz other son has problems with calcium in his teeth ....long word involved!
so thats why they fill them ..........

could that be enamel hyperplasia which makes the teeth look chalky?
Kemp - you are right about the importance of filling deciduous teeth. They hold the space for the permanent teeth. If they are lost early, it can mean orthodontic treatment. The first baby molar (d) is the most common for decaying, and isn't lost until about 10 years old. It abscesses quickly if it isn't filled, and is really upsetting for child as well as us when we are trying to sort it out.

I'm not excusing the dentist but could they have phoned and the message not got through to you?
My son cancelled several of his appontments at that age before the practice - and I , - realised that he was doing it. As his voice sounded mature, they thought it was his Dad saying the time / date was not convenient and he'd ring to make a different appointment.
