Advice needed about Windows firewall and Norton Fi

Hi,
We have Norton firewall protection, and have just seen on Windows that it is telling us to tick the box for their Windows firewall.
Windows says that turning off Windows firewall may make this computer more vulnerable to viruses and intruders.

Is it ok to have both Norton and Windows firewall protection, or would they clash?

nothing in this World is free and I would question if you are getting the full protection from software that is free.

Symantec (who own Norton) are one of the biggest anti virus and Internet security providers in the World. I have always used them and any probs (2 in total) they have always solved the prob. I can have instant chat with one of their security bods anytime of the day and they have always solved the problem.

I highly rate them and I beleive you get what you pay for...

Hi Jan,

What version of windows do you have? I'm on Vista and have both Windows and Norton Firewalls running. To date I've had no probs.. hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
GA - We have Windows XP - so you think I will be able to run Norton and Windows at the same time?

Hi Jan,
I have had Norton for 6 years and would not change it i also have turned off my windows firewall as it can interfere with some sites using two and i just use Norton firewall.
Norton is the best you can have .

Hi Jan,

I would need to check on that one for you. From what I remember on my old laptop I only had the Norton Firewall running and NOT windows Firewall, so would recommend doin the same. Vista is very different from XP so may probably be able to handle running both.

Sorry to disagree but Norton has failed to spot nasties that AVG picked up...perhaps Errol or a PC buff is the best person to answer this question

If your Norton is running, turn off windows AV. I imagine it automatically displays that message just in case you turn it off by accident and its your only av.

I feel Norton is better than free Avg.

When I removed free avg to install Norton, during its first scan, Norton picked up 3 viruses that Free AVG had let through.

I always thought free Avg was just an anti virus programme.

My Norton Internet security is not only an anti virus, but firewall as well. It also has anti phishing.

I also agree that Norton is the best, its only downside being its a large programme which slows the comp down a bit.

I also have used the Norton instant chat last Tuesday.

I had manually upgraded my subscription when prompted but got confused when I got an email 2 days later saying the money would be taken out on the 15th & I would be upgraded.

On the 15th I got another email saying they had taken out the same amount of money again...result panic LOL !

Spoke to very nice man on IC who rectified the problem, & said money would be reimbursed in 3 working days, it arrived within 2 in fact :o))
He also unticked the auto renewal which I had accidentally ticked :o))

I Evan was able to print a transcript of our convo and was given a case number should i have further problems.

Norton is 10/10 !

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to all for your replies.
Mildred - I've decided to play safe after reading your reply and just use the Norton anti virus.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Budgie,
Just read your reply - but think I have made my mind up about just using the Norton - I think!! :-)
(I don't know much about the workings of computers!)
