I've just taken advantage of Ancestry's free 14 day trial for a few hours as I'm visiting my parents. Was supposed to be going home tonight, but not anymore. Just done a search for an ancestor on the public trees and found one with what appears to be the ancestor I'm looking for and they have dated the line back to 1580! I only managed to get back to 1806! Have emailed them giving all info I have. Hope they get back to me asap as I'm now not going home until tomorrow afternoon! Need to play on ancestry a bit now!!!

Update - 1540 and still checking!!!!

When I first started this, I never once imagined that there would be a possibility of getting this far back. I was excited when I reached the 1800 date!

Hello Carole,

Lovely to see you again.

Isn't it wonderful when you get a breakthrough... I hope it is a fruitful one.

All the best.

Hello Tina,
I haven't had a breakthrough for at least a year. I've just been doing social history research (which is still very interesting) but how I've missed the excitement of getting new info and new ancestors. I'm so excited I could nearly pee! (ok, a bit too much info there, but I don't care!)

I love ancestry.................I started with a months trial, then last year saved and got a years membership.

The WW1 records are worth a look too.................they give loads of detailed info, such as height, colouring and any scars or tattoos, plus next of kin, occupation and home addresses.

I lose myself for ages reading them................and most of them aren't even my relatives:))

xx

1540?

And you are still looking?

Jesus Christ?

I'd be happy to find anything in the 17th century!!
Jack the ripper, Blue beard, any old murderer will do, just move my tree on a bit! ;-0)

lol Deanna!

I've been looking through the family trees on ancestry, I'm 95% sure that the line i've found is def connected to my lot! Made lots and lots of notes. I've got plenty of homework to get through - record office here I come!

I always said that I would've been over the moon to get to the 1700's. When I did I decided that i would love to get to the late 1600's. Never for one minute did I think there was even the slightest chance I'd get to 1540! All you need is a tiny breakthrough.

Must've drank at least 3 pots of strong coffee and smoked at least 15 cigs.

Still Happy!!!!!

Carole ;-)))
