Harpstrings Report 7 May 2008 20:34

from a press release:

She's kept the weight off thanks to a new fitness regime involving cycling and eating healthier versions of her favourite meals.

Fern discovered a love of cycling while training for a 250-mile charity ride - and lost nearly five stone.

"I've been cycling madly and it's for a good cause. I have always cycled a little and enjoyed it," she says.

Shebegan with three to four miles at a time, working up to 60 miles in a weekend.

Her husband, chef Phil Vickery, 46, who's made it clear he adores his "gorgeous Fern" whatever her size, confirms: "Fern's lost a lot of weight by cycling, walking the dog and not eating too much."

Better get meself a cycle and a dog! lol

Sounds good - I have to say that walking is great exercise, I've really struggled with my weight ever since I stopped regular dog-walking. Am going to extract my bike from the depths of the shed and start cycling to work!

I went to watch the celebrity mr and mrs and Fern did not only look good but her sense of humour is second to none. They were doing the rolling at the end and Philip Schofield could not say one of the contestants name time after time.He blamed it on the speed(a camera that he had to read from rolling round fast) she said you dont take that as well do you.It was a brilliant night and she was very friendly. In Woman diet mag, she says she cut her intake of food by a third , still the same sort of food, but smaller helpings on a smaller plate.the article says she is now a size 14,the picture of her doesnt seem to match the size....But I think she is great and tells it as it is , goodluck,to her.

I'm sure it must help being married to a chef - i would be half the size i am if someone else controlled my meals lol

Hmmm been at least 8 years since i rode a bike - takes some breaking-in in the hind quarters area **eek**

You don't need lots of money to be slim - no matter what diet you try, the basic truth is that if you take in more calories than you use in energy, you will put on weight.

Eat less, exercise more. It's the only maxim that works.

Personally, I think that we should all stop stressing so much about our weight, and try to be happy the way we are, so long as we are not suffering health wise.

Being on the bigger size has advantages....for one thing you will have stronger bones than a smaller built person, as you are carrying more weight around with you.

I have always been a somewhat skinny minnie, and have just been told I have severe osteoporosis caused primarily by my natural build and I now have to take special drugs to try and prevent it getting worse.

I'm not advocating being tremendously overweight, just that we try and be happy in our own skins without fretting that we don't somehow fit the "norm" whatever that is!!

The longest living of the relatives in my tree was my Gt. Grandmother who died at 92, and she was a tiny barrel shaped woman. As tall as she was round!

Dee - of course you are right - in so many ways.

So sorry to hear you have more health probs hun :O(

I have to say tho i think the hardest thing is to accept the way you have become when you've always been slim.

I'm not morbidly obese - but for my height and frame i AM obese all the same .......
