Malc /GG and Jackie Report 7 May 2008 22:44

Malc has just sent an email to his kids, telling them that he loves them.

His son sent a reply saying, "Whats the matter with you, are you going to commit suicide or something"

Ever had the feeling that you just can't win!!!??

Thats just kids for you, I get much the same response from my eldest....as they get older they will realise. I remember being like it myself.

We don't go in for serious declarations of affection in our family. I'm far more likely to say I love you to my kids than my parents are to me. Doesn't mean the love isn't there. Perhaps this was just Malc's son's way of making light as the emotional stuff makes him uncomfortable?

No. lol
My parents do love us very much it's just they don't show it in hugs etc. more the things they do for us. For example they bought me a SAD light as they knew I wouldn't pay that amount for myself.
They find it much easier to hug my kids.

I didn't even tell my mam I loved her when she had had a massive heart attack as she would have been frantically worried, she's likely have had another one. She knows i do and i know she does and that's enough for us. :) Nite all.x

Well Malc, you know your kids by now so just be proud you said it to them but don't get stressed about the reply, he probably didn't know what to say if it isn't something said often in your family so said the first thing that came into his head.
You could email back tomorrow, and say jokingly,' 'tis ok, I am still here lol wasn't planning on going anywhere,' and just leave it at that. You don't know if he was worried it was a farewell message as you have been down sometimes. With a wedding coming up, he should know you wouldn't do anything daft!
Btw, what happened about the invites, are they coming to the wedding and/or reception, how did you deal with it in the end.
My own parents never said they loved us, even when we went away, my mother's love was stifling and my father was exArmy, Burma, Egypt, Palestine Police etc so he was very typically British stiff upper lip type. When he was dying of lung cancer, he said to my Mum, I love you all and it was left to her to tell us. I still feel sad he couldn't say it to me and my brothers, but then I didn't say it to him either. He got all the love he could from his adored grandson, my lad, who was 7 when Dad died and they had been very close. I feel it was my gift to my parents as they got so much love and pleasure from him, and my brother's son was nowhere near as close to them, as they often mentioned. Was about the only thing I did that was right, and even that wasn't wholly approved of as I was an unmarried mum!
I am sure we all knew we loved each other and my Dad often did touching little things for me, that showed that love. I just didn't really recognise them as such at the time.
