You may need to alter your virtual memory (page file) settings.
Let me know if you haven't solved the problem yet.

Virtual memory is merely something the computer uses (part of your hard drive) to supplement actual memory (RAM) when it is running out because you are using a memory hungry piece of software for example.
You may hear it called a swap file or page (paging) file and the size can be altered easily if necessary.

De-frag will NOT resolve memory problems.

It will only cure slow disk access when loading up files. Unless you regularly load and delete largish files, or have an old computer that has never had the disk de-fragged, then a de-frag wil not make any difference whatsoever. .

If the problem has only recently arisen then the first thing to do is to shut down your computer, leave it switched off for a few minutes, say five, then re-boot it.

It may well be an idea to clear your cache too. When does the problem actually occur and are you running several programmes at once? How much memory do you have?

Errol,

The problem occurs once in a while, just sort of pops up sorts itself out and disappears. I usually have several windows open, but can not be sure justh ow many I had at the time of the pop up about the memory.

How can I check how much memory I have?
Clear my cache? you mean temp internet files I do that often, as I said i have three of my kids on here too often, and if I didn't do that and de frag, ad ware avg etc the comp would grind to a halt within days.

And how do I increase my memory? I REALLY hate fiddling with computer, am paranoid I'm going to break it ( ask Colin he's talked me thru enough to want to avoid me now when I ask for help LOL)

Oh just thought of at least one window that was open when it last popped up, and that was facebook. I was playing a game via facebook. Would that use a lot of memory?

You can check how much memory you have under System which is in Control Panel.
Do you mean increase memory or virtual memory? They are different.
