Just gone onto the site you saw Shelly and it is the right pub. I will certainly have to contact the local library though to see if they can help.
One of my sons used to drive past the Woodbine on his way to a meeting at his bosses houes once a week !! But he moved jobs to a different area so no longer goes that way sadly. If only we had known at the time !!

Thanks for that idea Joan I will certainly do that. i don't mind paying if they have any.
Annie apparently when the Inn was first taken over by her the place was called the 'Hamlet of Upshire@ so must have been tiny.

Peggy i do have a couple of books that i bought of the old Waltham Abbey when i lived there but they are still packed up somewhere. The place has changed since i moved there. They used to have traffic going through the high road and buses passing the little row of shops but its all pedestrians only now.My children all went to school there. There is a place called Quacker Lane and there was a Quacker school,so the place is very old. Wow that is amazing Annie! Do you know the Woodbine Inn?
Maybe they did not reply to my letter in case I am after some inheritance ha ha ha (no chance after this long eh). Seriously though I only want to see some pics of the place as it was in the old days. Perhaps even one with my Gt Gran on it . I even wrote to all the folk with the surname of Phillips as her daughter married a William Phillips, but no replies there either.

Hi, Was wondering if anyone knows if the Woodbine Inn is still open. it is situated in Honey Lane, Waltham Abbey, Essex.
I found from the 1891 and 1901 census that my Gt.Grandmother and her daughter ran the Woodbine Inn.
I have tried phoning the number listed with Bt but it is unobtainable (BT say it is out of order, what for 3 weeks ???). I found it on Google with current pictures and a phone number but no e-mail address.
I also wrote to them but have not had a reply as yet. I just wanted to know if any old pictures of the place are still in existence as it would be amazing to add them to my Family Tree.
So if any of you could help I would be so grateful.
Thanks, Peggy
