:) waves to all ~~

Hi Dawn

I don't think we have spoken before, extends hand of friendship, hi I'm Shimmer.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hug)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Have you tried Records, they have helped me so much, solved a family mystery in Scotland or perhaps Tips, they are so helpful too.

My family tree is complicated, smiling lol ... tis a maze, cannot make much progress. It is said that there is a link with Ireland too (Eire I think), if I ever manage to break down the barriers, I shall be asking them for help.

Take care my friend

thanks for the offer neil but i dont have a date when stevenson and mary got married at all the only thing i have to go by is that the 2 of them had the first kid in 1839 somewhere in ireland he was called william and then they had a catherine in 1849 but looking at the breeding patterns once in scotland i cant beleive that they had such a large gap in ireland without having other kids there too!!!

Hi Dawn,

It might be worth your while keep an eye on this site...

http://corknortheast.brsgenealogy.com/map.php?&set=yes

From the map you can see which counties are online, and which counties are "being worked on".

Also, don't miss the "Search All Ireland" button just below the map... I did for ages!! lol

One other point... without rambling too long... I couldn't find anyone with surname Muirhead on there, but there's lots of Moorehead's... might be nothing, but worth a try.

Happy hunting!!

Laura.

*edit* The two largest cities are not covered on there (Dublin and Cork). But the Dublin 1911 census is available online free here.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

The other counties are being worked on.

Laura.

Most Irish families can give a good account of their family history, but their are the baptism records Important for Catholics, First Communion records and Confirmation records burial records in most parishes but;
There was a deal of destruction up to the time of Independence and some more during the civil war that followed.

The only complete census records that survive for Ireland are the 1901 and 1911 but even the 1901 do not list all those that lived in tenements!

Before freedom from Britain Ireland was part of the UK and I do believe that censuses for the UK covered Ireland

Stumbled across this website today - The Dumfries and Galloway Family History Society.

http://www.dgfhs.org.uk/index.htm

Not used it, but did look through their current newletter, and near to the end of it makes some suggestions for finding Irish immigrant families and where they may have come from - looking up poor relief etc.

Maybe worth a look - you could try calling them

my lot seem to have come over from ireland in 1850 to scotland but i havent a clue how to go about finding them while in ireland, i dont even have a county to start searching just the info of the cencus after they arrived here, i have narrowed there arrival date by looking at the birth places of the kids they had and they appear to have arrrived sometime 1849-51 in this 2 yr gap they lived in glenluce wigtonshire before heading north to around kilmanock, the name im struggling with lack of info is stevenson muirhead born 1817 married to mary clark, i know they are real people as i have marys death certificate for 1868 where she died back in glenluce, stevenson was with her then,

can anyone suggest what and where to look at please
