Well done you, Elaine :o)
It's amazing how cold some people can be isn't it?
Me and a friend were leaving a late point to point a coule of years ago, when all the traffic slowed down and veered to the right. When we got to the same spot, we saw a dog lying in the road.
My friend just stopped the car. We got out and could see the dog was dead, but he had a collar with an address on, so we moved the dog out of the road on to the verge and took the collar to the nearest police station, giving details of where the dog was so the owners could retreive it. If the dog had been alive, we would have taken it to the nearest vets, but as it was dead, it was late and we weren't sure if the police station would be open (the one here closes at 5pm), and we had a 2 hour journey home as it was, we thought by taking the collar, the owner could at least be found.

Sorry to all who answered my thread. I have been off line for a week. Got news of the fox. Becky the R.S.P.C.A. officer contacted ne on saturday morning 23rd. She said she arrived at rhe vets at 1 pm and they assessed it. Apart from being very wet and in shock they could only find a break in its tail. She then took it to the Norfolk hospital of the R.S.P.C.A. where it ate and was quite fiesty. If anyone can get the number of the Norfolk branch I would be grateful so I can be updated on foxy's condition. I will text Becky as I have her number and get more info but I don't want to pester her as she has been great at keeping contact. Elaine.

Hi Elaine, I am so glad you were able to do something to help this poor creature, even if it took some time for help to come along. Did you have to wait there all that while, 5 hrs and more?
Will be interested to hear if it has survived.

The person who set their dogs on it should be hounded and chased themselves, to see how it feels.
Did anyone know who they were, so that they could be recognised if they walk there again and reprimanded at the very least?

Take care, wondered how you were.

Thanks for your thoughts. It's a good job some of us care, wildlife does not carry a purse to pay for their treatment and people are scared they will have to. Most vets will treat a wild thing free of charge and we all give to the animal charities so help should be there for them. Elaine.

I ve got a springer Spaniel bought him as a pet although both parents were top gun dogs with pedigrees, take him out every day for a long run loves his ball never been hunting in his life but he gets a smell of a rabbit hes gone. I know this might seem stupid to some people but if he caught one I m afraid to say I would have to take it the vets if he injured it, hubby would go mad with the vets bill, but thats me could nt harm anything, not even a wasp.

Yesterday my 16 year old grandson asked me if I would like to go to Cleethorpes for the day, with him his girlfriend and her dog. At the moment I am dog sitting for a friend who has gone to see her sister in Switzerland, so I said yes and I will take my jack russell and the lodger for a seaside treat. Up at 4.30 am to see to my birds, give the dogs a walk etc and we caught the 7 10 am train journey time 1hr and 40 mins. The tide was in so all the dogs swam after their balls and the sun was shinning, lovely. We were aproached by a couple who said would we put our dogs on a lead as just further up the beach was an injured fox. They went and as we got near we could see the poor thing laid out on the sand no one bothering to do anything for it. I used my mobile to call 999 and asked the police if they could get in touch with the R.S.P.C.A they were very good and did this for us. However, it took so long to actually get an officer who was an hour and a half away by car to speak to us on the phone although she did contact a local vet who was too busy to come himself. After 2 and a half hours of standing guard over it so we could protect it the R.S.P.C.A officer rang me to say the vet was sending one of his nurses to get it. 3 hrs later it was picked up and taken to the vets. It appears that a nice dog owner had set his two dogs on to it and they had chased it into the sea where they attacked it. The poor thing was wet and shocked as well as injured it just lay there looking at us until it gave up and curled into a ball to keep warm. I like to think it realised we offered no threat and were guarding it but I know it probably was so cold and shocked it was geting ready to die. Help may have come in time, I am going to ring the vet tommorrow but why did it take so long to for the so called animal rescue and the vet to do something. Elaine.
