I have always loved Morwenstow in Cornwall also Kilkhampton. Have recently found out that its very likely that I have ancestors from both places. We actually went and looked at the graves in Kilkhampton with no idea that I may have relations - we should have gone to the old section - I might have seen some familiar names.

I'm glad other people have had similar experiences. Communication down the generations?

I knew my Gran had died before I got the phone call - that was really spooky ( and not good for the person who phoned at that moment about something different - I was so confused!)

I love taking the car for a stroll around the pit villages, most of them have turned out to be past homes of my ancestors!
I always have that "warm I'm at home here" feeling when I drive through the Hettons in particular-as if I've known it all my life--and I haven't!!

Do you think its a case of re-incarnation or in our DNA . Perhaps we will never know.

Yes yes yes!!!!

There's a village in West Yorkshire called Barwick in Elmet, which has always been somehow attractive to me, not because it's very pretty and has a nice church and a couple of nice pubs (which it has) but much more than that, something I could never really explain, but I felt it deep inside of me.
The village is in the same county as I was born and raised (and am still raising my own) in, but lets put it this way, I could *never* hope to buy a place there, or rent or even probably erect a tent, lol. But every time I've visited, for a walk,or a nice pub lunch or (more randomly - to check on a caravan owned by an ex boyfriend and stored on a farm there during a foot & mouth outbreak), I have always felt *very* much at home, and kind of engaged with the land - can't find any other words to describe the feeling. (Bearing in mind I grew up in the exact area my family had lived & worked since my great grandparents (in South Leeds), and that Barwick is a million miles away in economic political & social terms today, and logically I should never have been able to feel "at home" there)
When I started doing my tree I soon found out that 3 or 4 generations of my direct ancestors were from that very village and farmed the land from 1750ish.

Spooky indeed but in a very nice way

Maria :o)

Know what you mean Shirley. I always felt a strong connection to Germany and always felt , but had no idea why that I had German in me. I was adopted as a baby and later found out my blood father had a German sir name. I remember thinking when I found out, yes I always knew. Very strange.

WELL our daughter was married to an Army guy.(long since divorced but thats another story) We spent several holidays in Germany in the 1980,s and altho I didn't like the visit to Bergen Belson I always did feel very happy and relaxed in Germany AND wanted to connect with the local German shopkeepers etc.
NOW started to "do" the family tree about 6 years ago and found my fathers dad was German!! We always knew there was German in the family BUT didn't know it was that close.
Wish i could find where in Germany they came from though.

I went to Ribchester 23 yrs ago to see the Roman museum, and i kept getting a really strong feeling of DA JA VU.I even said to my husband I feel like i have been here before. Last year when doing family tree research, only found that my ancestors lived there from 1700 to the mid 189Os.

I have always loved Cranbrook and Hawkhurst in Kent.

Had no idea till 6 years ago that my Grandad and all his sisters were born in Hawkhurst and Great Grandma and family came from Cranbrook.

My Great Grandad owned a tailoring shop in Hawkhurst and was Treasurer of the Cricket Club.

Very strange, I was born in London and only moved to Kent when I got married

Has anyone had anything like this happen to them?

When passing through Lichfield I have always found myself looking with interest at a certain street - only to discover when I started researching my family tree that my great grandparents were living in that street in 1901.

And now, on receiving my grandfather's birth cert, find he was born in another street in another town at which I have always looked with interest. I had no idea they ever lived there.
