Firefox & Ancestry Enhanced Image Viewer

Hi All
Has anyone successfully installed Ancestry Enhanced Image Viewer whilst using Firefox?
I keep getting a message about missing plugins and have yet to find the relevant one/s.
It works ok in Internet Explorer [which I also use] but Ancestry's Help insists both browsers will work.

[Have just stopped twitching from being without web access due to ISP for 48hrs! ;)]

I've been using it on Firefox for quite a whlie. Earlier on it had a tendency to crash Firefox, so I was always copying image url into an IE window instead, but that seems to have stopped and I've been using just Firefox for images for some time now.

In the last couple of days I've been having a little trouble. I'm occasionally getting a fleeting message telling me to install the viewer, then it goes away and I get the image. But occasionally I haven't been able to get an image at all.

I'd send them an email and ask for some customer support. Hahahaha. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. ;)

Or call them during whatever their business hours are.

Mine is intermittent, sometimes it works for a limited period, other times not at all.

Gwenda! Using IE to view Ancestry UK is a horrorshow; how can you stand it?

The flash ads would give me conniptions. When they first started, and Firefox wasn't fit for Ancestry yet (and of course then I got Adblock in Firefox), I was going to have to just stop using Ancestry, and then I got this:

http://www.bbshare.com/

NoFlash!

I keep it permanently turned on (it prompts you when you start up) so whenever I have to use IE for something I am not assaulted by crawling and squirming and, well, flashing things on my screen. It's little and quick to install. And if you need to enable Flash, you can do it with a click of the icon in your tray.

Checked it all out on the net before installing it, and it's safe. If the ads bother you (here at GR, too), you might want to check it out.

Ironically, it's working fine for me right now LOL

Janey - I use Ancestry Au - probably no different to UK but works fine - just wish their search engine was a bit more specific - even using exact search give you loads of useless. Guess I am so used to doing Aussie searches that take you to the exact record you need or a smaller selection from which to choose.

btw I don't get flash ads on Ancestry and only at the top of this page

Ahhh -- yes, Ancestry Canada is fine too. The markets aren't big enough for the big fancy ads, is the thing.

Even the dot com version doesn't have the hideous ads the UK version has. UK advertisers and their hosts are just lightyears ahead of the rest of the planet in how to annoy people, believe me.

But I have to use UK because that's where everything I want is. Although you know, if I signed into CA now that my sub there has expired, under my UK username ... would that work ...?

No matter, noflash works just dandy!

Hi again, thanks for your interesting feedback.
Janey I had considered contacting Ancestry Support btw, just thought I'd ask on here first as we're all regular users.

I use IE for Ancestry UK and it does drive me crackers re the ads so will try look at bbshare.
I use FF for everything else and also use Adblock which is effective.

Cheers
